The Learning Rooms-The Hub of our Educational projects
We are excited to tell you about The Learning Rooms!
This is one our two main focuses this year, the other being the Retreat site. You can hear more about the Retreat in our previous news blog.
The Learning rooms will consist of two classrooms, a computer room and a library. As part of our plan for phased educational support across the ages, the Learning rooms will be the hub of learning activity at Sachibondu. We believe that if children get a good foundation in their education, in their early years, they will have a much better chance of suceeding when they reach exams in the upper grades. Here in Zambia, if they do not pass their exams, they have very little chance to progress in schooling or to ever get a job. Learning to read is a skill that we want to help the Sach community with and using our learning rooms we can take in small groups and supplement children’s learning. There are also many adults who don’t know how to read and it is our passion to create opportunities for adults to progress in their education too. Its never too late! The learning rooms will give children access to laptops to help them keep up to date with how to use technology. The Library will be a wonderful space where children and adults alike can access books that they might otherwise never have access to. We have identified gaps in the learning stages and often we see students get as far as grade 9 or grade 12 but then fail their exams and are stuck at that stage. We want to support students who have fallen through the cracks, to get through these exam stages so that they can go on to higher learning.
We are still dreaming and coming up with more ideas on how best we can utillise this learning space and are sure that this project will expand as we go along.
Building begins soon! Watch this space!
